Degas: Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things.

Juan Gris: You are lost the instant you know what the result will be.

Picasso: For me each painting is a study. I say to myself, I am going one day to finish it, make a finished thing of it. But as soon as I start to finish it, it becomes another painting, and I think I am going to redo it. Well, it is always something else in the end. If I retouch, I make a new painting.
